From my understanding.... He is stuck in some magical loop that repeats everyday.....BUT if he catches a girl who committed a crime, negotiates with her for sex to keep her secret, and she has to not break down/away from the deal. So this allows him to move onto the next segment of the day, otherwise the day loops entirely...so this is a giant trial and error in order for him? Can anyone confirm or enlightenment if any of my infers are correct or incorrect?
