I did a thesis on the parasite, it doesn't control minds; it just fucks up the snails' perception of light so they climb up plants and get eaten by birds. This is done in order to reproduce in the stomach of the birds. The eggs are then released with bird poo and snails eat them, completing the circle. Controlling mentally an host is fucking expensive in energy and only a few species do that, and even them resort on tricks to do it, such as altering feromon's perception.
